G-Live Theatre

Replacing the old Civic Hall, which closed in 2004, the new state-of-the-art G Live venue in Guildford provides a flexible performance hall, which accommodates 1,000 in all-seat or 1,700 in seated/standing modes. The venue also incorporates a flexible-use 100-seat studio space, substantial foyers, café and bars, kitchens to provide for banqueting, seminar and meeting rooms, dressing rooms plus green room and offices.

Operated by HQ Theatres on behalf of Guildford Borough Council, G Live is intended to become the region's landmark venue for the performing arts, culture and entertainment. Opening in September the venue already boasts a full programme, including performances by the London Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, The Drifters, the Russian State Ballet and Orchestra of Siberia, Brendan Cole, Omid Djalili & Dara O’Briain.

Our aspect of the project involved a Main Kitchen & associated stores, Box Office Counter, Food Servery Counter, 3 fully fitted Bar counters, A separate Bottle Bar, Dressing Rooms, Green Room, Staff Room, Hospitality Area & Function room equipment.

The Servery counters have been clad in a specialist Italian tile to match that used on the exterior of the building. The Kitchens have been designed to maximize the productivity from very compact spaces, with great care to ensure that ergonomics & flows are not compromised. The external refrigeration compressors used, omits low noise & vibration to ensure the live Theatre performances are not compromised.

GLive Hospitality Manager, Glenn Prested has stated:”Given the constraints of the building in terms of space and location, GSG have designed and installed a high quality, practical solution which allows us as operators to fulfil both our contractual requirements to Guildford Borough Council and deliver the level of customer service we strive for as HQ Theatres.

The main kitchen is finished to a high standard, with ample provision in terms of equipment, to be able to service a variety of different types of events, across three floors around the building. Due to the limited space offered in the construct of the building, the lay out and installation is well thought out and offers good flow in this busy area.

The lay out and finish of the bars and cloakroom area is to a very high standard and is sympathetically designed, in keeping with the rest of the building.

The “aftercare” from GSG has been excellent, particularly given some of the supplier issues that have occurred since PC of the project.”
