Empowering the Next Generation through Faith and Community Support

Introduction

GS Catering Equipment Limited is proud to announce its support for ICE Torbay (Introducing a Christian Experience), a newly registered local charity (No. 1211634) dedicated to bridging the gap between local churches and the school community. By providing high-quality Religious Education (RE), ICE Clubs at lunchtime and social support projects, ICE Torbay creates vital opportunities for children to explore the Christian faith in a supportive, educational environment.

About ICE Torbay: “Bringing Faith to Life”

ICE Torbay operates with a clear mission: to ensure every young person in Torbay has the opportunity to understand the Christian faith. Their work is provided free of charge to schools, ensuring that financial barriers never prevent a child from accessing these services.

The charity’s impact is significant, reaching up to 500 children per term across Years 1 through 6. The team currently works with 5–6 different schools each term, typically operating on Monday through Wednesday lunchtimes and afternoons to deliver a curriculum that is both engaging and academically rigorous.

Educational Excellence & RE Delivery

A core pillar of the charity is the delivery of RE modules. Nick Pitt leads this initiative (supported by Debbie Onslow), liaising directly with school leadership to ensure sessions align with the national curriculum while providing deep, insights into Christianity.

Engagement: Modules are designed to be active and participatory, encouraging children to discuss “big questions.”

Professional Development: The high quality of teaching also provides valuable professional development for school staff, who benefit from the team’s specialist expertise

Holistic Support: Lunchtime Clubs and Wellbeing

Beyond the classroom, ICE Torbay provides essential pastoral support. Debbie Onslow who also facilitates lunchtime clubs that offer a “calm harbour” for some of the community’s most vulnerable children.

Creative Expression: Children participate in arts and crafts projects, fostering teamwork and confidence.

Emotional Wellbeing: These sessions take children out of the often-boisterous playground environment, providing a safe space that supports mental health and social development.

Wider Community Outreach

As a faith-motivated organisation, ICE Torbay’s heart for service extends beyond the school gates. The charity aims to support wider community projects, including tackling aspects of food poverty and equipping children for life, embodying their commitment to providing relief for those in need within Torbay and the surrounding area.

The Impact of the GS Catering Equipment Donation ICE Torbay relies entirely on the generosity of donors to maintain their staff, resources, and outreach programs. The £1,000 donation from GS Catering Equipment Limited serves as a vital catalyst for growth. This funding will allow the charity to:

  1. Secure New Volunteers: Expanding the team to meet the high demand from local schools.
  2. Operational Growth: Strengthening the charity’s infrastructure to ensure long-term sustainability.
  3. Enhanced Outreach: Allowing the team to take a “leap of faith” into new projects and school partnerships that were previously limited by resource constraints.
